About us

What is Foundation Christian School?
Foundation Christian School is a JK-8 school that goes above and beyond Ministry of Education expectations in a Christian environment. Small class sizes ensure that your child gets the attention that they need and the encouragement to excel in their studies. We also offer structured before and after school care programs, making it easier to fit Christian education into parents' busy schedules.
What's so special about Foundation?
In a word, experience. Both in the sense of staff experience, and the family-like experience of a small, Christian school.
We have brought together an experienced team of directors working to guide the school, and employ a highly qualified and Ministry certified Christian staff who will work with your child in a loving, caring environment. Parents appreciate the family atmosphere of a small school, too, since it helps them get to know all of the children and their families.
Where is Foundation?
We're located in Winterbourne, in the historic former Winterbourne Public School building. We're closer than you think, being centrally located just minutes from Kitchener, Waterloo, Elmira, Conestogo, Breslau, and St. Jacobs, on a beautiful 6 acre property.

Our Name
The Foundation Christian School name was chosen to encapsulate the solid academic and spiritual bases we envision and pursue for each child.
Our academic foundation is based on providing an academically stimulating education in a nurturing and caring school environment. Small class sizes ensure that all children get the attention they need from our Ministry of Education certified teachers. The academic foundation is strengthened by parental and community involvement.
Our spiritual foundation is formed by an immersive Christian environment which models Christian values in all that we do. Like the wise man who built his house on the rock (Matthew 7:24-25), we believe that our school provides a firm spiritual foundation for children to weather the storms of life in our secular world.
Ok, what's with the rock thing?
You see, the wise man's house had a rock as its foundation. Get it? The rock is our foundation, and so Foundation Christian School is—affectionately—our rock.
We use the rock theme for many things at Foundation, including our website, the Rock Talk eNewsletter, and our headmaster (he's not a fossil, but he was a good find!).
Our Logo and Colours
![]() |
Our logo depicts two people with their arms extended in joy. The people are reaching higher, representing both a higher standard of education, and at the same time, reaching to God above. The two people are also reaching outward to embrace others, and to draw them in, representing an invitation to share God's love. Overall, the two people form the reverse image of a central cross, representing our focus on Christ in everything we do. |
The school colours of white, green and blue were chosen for their meanings, namely: white, representing purity and faith in God's word; green, representing nature and growth; and blue, representing stability, truth and the water of baptism. |

Foundation Christian School is officially registered as, and operated by, the non-profit organization known as On A Rock Christian School of Waterloo Region. In our day to day operations, we are known simply as Foundation Christian School, and in reference to the foundation in the scriptures, as 'the Rock'.
The Foundation Christian School Story
For many years, a number of individuals held the seed of an idea. Their idea was for the formation of a Christian School that focused on top-notch academics in a Christian environment. Although there were other Christian Schools in the area, this one would be the first to be independent of a particular church or denomination, allowing the story of Christ's love to be shared without denominational divisions. After all, we are all God's children.
In the spring of 2006, the conditions were right and some of these individuals felt led to plant the seed. As they shared their ideas with others, more people came to realize that they shared this same, common vision. They envisaged an environment that would be an ideal place for children to not only grow and learn, but also to grow in Christ. Through prayer, this group determined that the time was indeed right to plant the seed for the formation of a new Christian school, and to develop the core ideas and ideals that would shape Foundation Christian School.
As the people tended to the new seedling, it grew in the care it received and others became interested in it. By God's grace, more like-minded people came to join and share in the effort of growing a Christian school. Before long, the idea of an open Christian School ministry had attracted the overwhelming support of many families, teachers, and the community.
They were all amazed by how quickly it grew. Raised up on the collective hands of many, Foundation Christian School came into being during the summer of 2006, and opened its doors to students in September, 2006.
